Brain and Mood
Brain chemistry is highly complex, dependent on many nutrients to function optimally, and vulnerable to metabolic imbalances. When this occurs, various symptoms may arise. Neurons communicate with each other using a range of chemical messengers called neurotransmitters, and this communication—as well as the growth and survival of the neurons themselves—is modulated by locally acting proteins such as Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF). Changes in neurotransmitter levels and uptake have been observed in conditions such as stress and mood disorders, leading to the development of drugs that manipulate neurotransmitter levels. The fact that these drugs are slow-acting and relatively ineffective led to other scientific approaches to research, and it has recently been demonstrated that changes in BDNF and related factors can be highly significant. It has been shown that the bioactive compounds enhance both neurotransmitters and BDNF.

Saffron
Saffron is one of the most expensive spices in the world. Saffron is cultivated in various parts of the world, and since harvesting and processing are done by hand, it must in most cases be pretreated with heat or radiation due to the presence of microorganisms, including pathogens such as E. coli. These treatments reduce microbial contamination but also lower the number of bioactive components, thereby reducing the product’s quality. Spanish saffron is different! Spanish saffron is also harvested by hand, but thanks to its cultivation and harvesting methods, it does not pose any problems related to microorganisms and does not require radiation treatment. This means that all bioactive compounds are still present in the saffron and that the extracted quantities are higher.

Affron®, the new generation of saffron extract
Affron® is extracted from Spanish saffron stigmas using a highly advanced process that enhances the profile of bioactive compounds. During the process, the extract is standardized to contain at least 3.5% of the bioactive compound Lepticrosalides®* with high levels of the two most important active compounds: Safranal (0.03–1%) and crocins (3.48–8.0%). These high concentrations set affron® apart from all other saffron extracts on the market in terms of their effects.

Directions for use:
Recommended daily dose: Children ages 4 to 11: 1–2 tablets per day. Adolescents ages 12–17: 2–4 tablets per day. Adults over 18 years of age: 2–6 tablets per day.
